The story of Tilda® is one of unbroken success.

Tilda® was the first company to bring Basmati to the Western World over 40 years ago and has become an international food brand selling in over 50 countries.

To this day Tilda® is by far the favourite Basmati brand within various communities, and with the rise in ethnic food popularity, Tilda® has become the brand leader in the growing Basmati rice market. This position has strengthened over recent years as more consumers have switched from ordinary long grain rice to Basmati.

Tilda® remains proud of its reputation for uncompromising quality.  With the offering of both the dry rice and steamed rice varieties, Tilda® continues its commitment to sustain the legendary status of Basmati and the Tilda Basmati® brand worldwide.

Tilda® – Uncompromising Quality

Basmati remains at the very heart of Tilda®. We are committed to only selecting the finest Basmati for all our products. Our Basmati is carefully selected in the Himalayan foothills which is the only place on earth where Basmati can be grown.

We have for many years worked hand-in-hand with the Basmati farming community. Our Basmati is harvested by hand and threshed to ensure that none of the precious grains are lost. Any broken or discoloured grains are removed to guarantee only the finest milled rice reaches you. Broken grains cause stickiness so their removal ensures fluffy and separate rice gains – giving perfect results.

DNA TESTING

In our quest for the very best Basmati, Tilda®  employs the latest DNA fingerprint technology and checks every batch of rice for purity.

Our scientists at Ricesearch use DNA analysis to assess the genetic purity or otherwise of paddy samples. All Tilda Traditional Pure Basmati® rice from across the growing region is tested, ensuring that every batch of Tilda Basmati® buys is pure, because only Pure Basmati possesses the true Basmati characteristics – long slender grains with a delicate texture, delicious taste and tantalizing aroma. We never compromise on quality.

Why Basmati is the Best

Basmati is known as “the Prince of rice” due to its fragrant aroma. Its exceptional character lies in its unique aroma that has been likened to ‘sun-baked wood and flowers.’ The long slender grains have a delicious taste and delicate texture. Like fine wine, Basmati flavour matures with age.

If you think rice is just rice, here are just a few of the reasons why Basmati is best and why to choose Basmati over ordinary rice.

BASMATI IS A HEALTHY ‘SUPERGRAIN’

Basmati is gluten-free and low in fat. It contains all eight essential amino acids, folic acid, and is very low in sodium and has no cholesterol.

Basmati has a low to medium glycaemic index, meaning that energy is released at a slower, steadier rate leading to a more balanced level of energy.

BASMATI IS A TASTE SENSATION

Tilda Basmati® tastes like no other rice on earth. Unlike ordinary long grain rice the light, fluffy texture of Basmati’s long, slender grains offers the palate a totally different experience in terms of mouth-feel and taste – distinctive, unique and slightly ‘nutty’.

TILDA BASMATI® IS THE CHAMPAGNE OF RICE

Likened to champagne, Tilda Pure Basmati® is steeped in centuries of legendary tradition and heritage. Like a fine wine, Basmati improves with age, and relies entirely on nature for its very special characteristics. We store our Basmati for months in order for it to mature, before carefully milling, resulting in a deeper and richer flavour.

BASMATI REQUIRES CONSTANT LOVE AND AFFECTION

There is only one Basmati harvest a year and the plant requires specific weather conditions to mature and flourish. It is much taller than other rices, and so is prone to wind damage. Its delicate make-up explains the constant need for vigilance and care by the farmer, yet allows the plant to develop its complex and unique flavour and characteristics.

For over 40 years, we have been committed to preserving this legendary rice. We consider ourselves ‘Guardians’ of Basmati and from the very beginning have worked tirelessly to ensure that the legend of Pure Basmati continues to flourish.
